Project CARS 3 is the third installment of the popular racing game series, the development of which is supervised by the team of Slightly Mad Studios (from 2019 belonging to the British company Codemasters). The studio's portfolio, in addition to the earlier parts of the series, includes such productions as Need for Speed: Shift, Shift 2: Unleashed or Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends.
Mechanics
The foundation of Project CARS 3 is the Career, which has been completely revamped compared to previous parts. It's now structured more in the tradition of arcade racing games (the player starts with slow road cars and gradually moves up to more powerful machines) and is more user-friendly for newcomers. The game also gives you a relatively wide range of options in configuring the difficulty level and the in-car assists - while retaining realistic settings for veteran racers (though the driving model has been slightly simplified compared to Project CARS 2).
In Career mode, we are given access to our own garage, which we gradually fill up with purchased cars. The currency we receive as we reach new levels of experience is used for this purpose. In PC3, we are able to improve our vehicles by purchasing parts that increase their performance index (similar to the Forza series). To a limited extent, it is also possible to modify the appearance of cars (including ready-made aerodynamic packages, wheels and license plates). In addition, a comprehensive body paint editor has been created, and a handful of driver customization options have been made available.
A number of other significant changes were also introduced in Project CARS 3. First and foremost, the developer has revamped the pad control model in a nod to less advanced players, as well as developed a new tire simulation, improved the artificial intelligence, and cranked up the driving experience. The game does away with elements such as mechanical car damage, pre-race qualifying (in single player mode), and pit stops.
The game provides players with approximately 200 cars divided into ten classes and more than 140 tracks (including brand new ones, such as the Interlagos in Sao Paolo, Brazil, or the streets of Shanghai), which can be seen in a full cycle of seasons, in a wide range of weather conditions. Unfortunately, some of the Project CARS 2 content is missing, led by the famous Spa and Le Mans circuits, as well as rallycross tracks and cars.
Game Modes
Project CARS 3 allows you to play in both single player and multiplayer modes. The main module is Career (described above), which features classic races, time trials, and a novelty in the form of Demolition (smashing gates in time). Multiplayer is divided into two variants. We can compete with other players in traditional races (prepared by the players or game producer) or choose asynchronous Rivals mode, where we race against the "ghosts" of other users. A new system of rankings, challenges, and rewards has been developed specifically for multiplayer.
